Hard sheep and goat milk cheese with a waxed rind. Ladotyri matures for at least three months before packaging. It has a light-yellow color and small holes. It stands out for its pleasant aroma and slightly spicy and salty flavor.
The Ladotyri cheese is made exclusively on the island of Lesbos. Its wheel has a shape of a small head, known as the “head of Mytilene”.
Ladotyri is a perfect appetizer with ouzo or wine. It can also be consumed alone. The Ladotyri cheese is also used in some traditional Lesbos dishes, such as gkiouzlemedes (cheese pies) or sfougato (zucchini, eggs, cheese and vegetables fried mix).
